CATHY USATOFF

A former art teacher and visual merchandiser, Cathy put her creative pursuits on hold in order to raise a family. She has since rediscovered the joyful act of mark making and celebrating her love of colour through painting. While exploring a variety of styles, her inspirations are organic and evolving and are based on the winery vistas, coastal environments and Australian bushland on the Mornington Peninsular.

Through abstraction and reinterpretation of the landscape, Cathy is free to focus on the relationship between rhythmic movement of line and layers of bright splashes of colour as they play against each other. Her vibrant and playful paintings are contemporary impressionist and engage viewers to step up and look closely at her work.

— “It’s the small details and spontaneous accidents that I love the most. The mini scapes within the larger ones or the little flashes of colour that catch my eye hinting at what’s hiding underneath; beyond the first impression. "

EMILIE HEURTEVENT

Emilie Heurtevent is an emerging artist working in mixed media painting with predominantly acrylic and ink. Her passion for painting began at a young age. Surrounded by museums and a constant turnover of exhibitions in Paris, she learned and practiced a variety of techniques, from realistic watercolours to Chinese calligraphy. It wasn’t long before she began experimenting with abstracts. She adds layers after layers, making marks, erasures and abrasions.

Emilie’s studio and home are located in North Melbourne, Australia. She shares her life with her partner Lucas and Geraldine the cat, both fantastic Art critics. Her interest in the process of moving between a known and unknown experience is what represents Emilie’s work. Change, growth and personal perception – cycles of decay and renewal – deconstruction and reconstruction are her reoccurring subjects.

Emilie paints when she gets the urge; with different sounds, colours, lights and movements triggering her. The grey of concrete in the city, the smoothness of the clouds. She is a combination of calm and chaotic. Without any tangible conclusion in mind, she lets her feelings flow out onto the canvas. Emilie works intuitively and abstractly, leading by the music.

GENNA KAYE

Genna is a self-taught artist living and working in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Her love for colour, painting and design has been with her as far back as she can remember. Genna began exploring her creativity in more depth in 2016 and what started as producing some artwork for her home and family, has slowly become so much more. She loves creating beautiful one of a kind artworks of all colours and sizes.

Her focus is the relationship between shape, colour and line, colliding them together whilst still creating a balance between all three. She is constantly playing with new textures, colours and techniques within her artwork, and loves the way a piece comes together over time. She says "It is often a wonderful surprise to myself on how a piece will end up, as I never have a clear picture in my mind on how I want the piece to look, rather I love how my feelings and energy in the studio create the end result."

Her artwork is never intended to make the viewer feel or see anything, more to invite their minds to wander and dance through the colours and movements before them... If she can capture their attention and still their minds for just a moment she feels as though her artwork has done its job.

"I have always said I want to leave my mark on the world… Painting is my mark."

GLENDON CORDELL

Glendon sees himself as an abstract landscape contemporary painter. He enjoys creating pieces that reflect the landscape in a colourful, contemporary and abstract way.

In his process, Glendon uses layer upon layer of acrylic paint,  ensuring his work is detailed and concise. Glendon dabble in gouache and watercolour but prefers acrylic as his chosen medium.

His work explores the relationship between colour, texture and formations of mark making on canvas. Glendon's main inspiration comes from natural landscapes, nature it self, beautiful rolling hills, deep blue water ways, dry yellow fields- all interpreted in his own quirky way. His paintings are not intended to be serious or to make a statement as such, more for the joy of the viewers and their appreciation of the work he creates. Glendon hopes to relay the emotions and feelings of calmness and enjoyment.

HANNAH ROSE

Hanna Rose was born in regional Victoria in 1980. She always had a passion for art and design and an obsession with colour from a young age. As any creative person would know, its not a choice, but an innate need to create. She studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT and majored in ceramics, however after a long hiatus and the birth of her son in 2012, she felt a strong desire to re-establish her artwork and decided to focus on her other love of abstract painting.

Hanna uses colour as a form of self-expression. As a student, she was fascinated by and often studied the American Expressionist movement of the 1940's and 50's. In particular, she takes inspiration from the founders in Rothko, Klee, Kandinsky and de Kooning. Their style, often characterised by gestural brush-strokes or mark-making, and the impression of spontaneity resonates with Hanna so too their use of colour to express emotion.

Her other passions include fashion and interior design, ceramics, cooking, gardening and health and fitness. She is a passionate mother, wife and lover of life....and expressive colour.

She is based in Armadale, Victoria and is currently working towards an exhibition.

JAROMIR KREJCIK

Jaromir Krejcik was born and raised in the town of Brno in the former Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic. His earlier influences were the natural beauty of the countryside and the unique botanical patterns that each village uses in their stone carving and embroidery. Despite the attractions of the countryside, living in the Soviet Empire was a nightmare of repression and censorship. Arriving in Australia gave him a new life, joy in living and a commitment to oppose anyone who wants to take my freedom away.

He would list his main influence as the old masters, film, animation, communist propaganda, advertising, the natural environment, sailing and the sea, urban grunge, street art and of course, St Kilda which has been his home for the last 30 years. This eclectic combination underpins all of Jaromir's work.

Wood is his preferred material to work on because it has its own irregular organic surface. His work is built up with layers, each obscuring the earlier ones, much like our culture that is continually overwriting itself before the last layer has dried.

KELLY BERGHELLA

Kelly Berghella is a semi-abstract artist from Wonga Park, at the gateway to the Yarra Valley, Victoria. Inspiration for her work comes from time spent in, and a love for, nature particularly along the Yarra River as well as the ever-changing view out her own front door. MELISSA LASBOZZETTA

Melissa LaBozzetta is a passionate, sassy and energetic artist that captures the rawness of her emotion through her artistry on canvas, print and clothing. Melissa’s dream of an artist started from the age of 9, where she wanted to become an illustrator for children’s books. There is no stopping this woman, she is dedicated to her art, and would love nothing more than to share her art with the world. With her energy, and dedication this will happen.

SHARMAIN LOWE

Sharmain grew up in the picturesque Yarra Valley, Victoria, where from a very young age she started sewing and knitting. In her early adulthood she began designing and making knitwear for two inner city fashion boutiques. Later on she got married, had two daughters, and worked in an uninspiring non creative job for nineteen years. One day Sharmain was looking through a home magazine when she saw a painting which sparked that longing to be creative again.

Sharmain is a self-taught artist who is inspired by nature and fabrics. She loves layers and texture, whether it be in paint or fabric, and she mainly uses acrylic and ink in her work. In most cases a paintbrush does not touch the surface, instead pallet knives, squeegees and pouring methods are used to achieve her results. Sharmain loves the beautiful colours produced when paints and mediums mix and intertwine with each other, which is a key element in her pieces. Sharmain invites you to enjoy the creative journey with her.
